Religious Education

Intent

Teach a child what is wise, that is morality. Teach him what is wise and beautiful, that is religion.

Thomas Huxley

Powerful knowledge in Religious Education – Why do we teach these concepts?

Religious Education (RE) has continued to grow at KLA. It has become recognised as a key subject that teaches understanding and culture through developing students’ knowledge in Islam and Christianity as well as a range of thematic topics to give students an understanding to different responses to the key issues of life such as war, crime and families. The impact of studying the topics develops students’ perceptions as well as key skills such as argumentative writing, expressing opinions but also referencing religious sources of wisdom.

Curriculum Features - How do we embed the learning?

At all levels, students are provided with opportunities to express their beliefs and attitudes towards the areas covered. The emphasis is on empowering students to notice, make connections, expand and develop the knowledge on key areas of life in preparation for the future.

In each year we have a particular focus with embedding the learning by encouraging the students to develop their subject knowledge through understanding, application, comparison and discussion. This enables students to understand the topics covered but also give them the opportunity to develop their own thoughts and hear others

Curriculum Enrichment – How do we link with other subjects and offer experiences?

Students will be offered a wide variety of opportunities and experiences that widen their education of Religious Education:

  • Trips to local places of worship
  • Trips to national places of worship
  • Key speakers
  • Conferences
