Maths Mastermind winners!

Congratulations to the Year 11 Mastermind contestants. It was a closely fought session and produced a worthy winner by a one point difference.

Course Outline/Overview

Key Stage 3

  • Through out the key stage pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of the five stands of mathematics:
  • Mathematical processes and applications
  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Geometry and measures
  • Statistics
  • For the majority of students Key Stage 3 will be condensed to Years 7 and 8, and GCSE studies will begin in year 9.

Key Stage 4

  • GCSE Syllabus: Edexcel Mathematics B - Modular (2MB01)
  • Specification B is modular – this means that the examinations can be taken during the course, though Unit 3 is usually taken at the end of the course. Students will have the opportunity to re-sit units 1 and 2 before the end of the course if this is needed to improve their grade. No calculators are allowed for Unit 2.
  • Unit 1: Statistics and Probability
    One written paper (1 hour 15 minutes) worth 30% of the total GCSE.
  • Unit 2: Number, Algebra and Geometry 1
    One written paper (1 hour 15 minutes) worth 30% of the total GCSE.
  • Unit 3: Number, Algebra and Geometry 2
    One written paper (1 hour 30 minutes Foundation Tier, 1 hour 45 minutes Higher Tier) worth 40% of the total GCSE.

  • Key Stage 5
  • A-Level Syllabus: AQA (6360)
  • A full A-Level consits of six units, four compulsary units (Pure Core1, Pure Core2, Pure Core3 and Pure Core4) and two optional units.
  • Currently we offer two optional units from Statistics 1B, Decision 1 and Mechanics 1B.
  • All units are without coursework and are assessed through a written paper (1 hour 30 minutes) worth 75 marks.
